Why 100Ah lithium is the sweet spot
A 100Ah LiFePO4 battery gives you close to 100Ah of usable power, about double what you can safely take from a 100Ah AGM. That's enough to run a compressor fridge, LED lights, a water pump and phone charging for a night or two without the engine running.
It also weighs around 10 to 12kg, less than half a typical 100Ah AGM, which matters when you're watching your caravan's payload.
What to look for
- Built-in BMS rated for your loads. Check the continuous discharge rating (100A is common) covers your inverter and fridge together.
- Low-temperature charge protection or self-heating if you camp in alpine areas or frosty inland mornings.
- Bluetooth monitoring so you can check charge level and cell health from your phone.
- Dimensions and terminal type. Measure your battery box or mounting spot before you buy.
- Australian warranty and support, ideally from a seller with a local address.
How long will 100Ah last?
A typical 12V compressor fridge averages 1 to 2A over a day, so roughly 24 to 48Ah per day. Add lights and charging and most couples use 40 to 70Ah a day. Pair a 100Ah battery with 200W or more of solar and you can stay put for days in good sun.
